Puppy Class:
This is a 6 week class for puppies 9-18 weeks of age. This class teaches how to establish desirable behavior and redirect undesirable habits from early on. Topics include housebreaking, chewing, inhibiting play-biting, nutrition, grooming, shyness, over-aggression, manners around children & food, socialization and basic obedience commands.

Pre-Beginner's Class:
This is a 6 week class for young, good natured, friendly dogs that are too old for Puppy class but too young to be held responsible for their actions. Handlers will learn to control unruly youngsters by making a more conscious effort to control rewards. This is a fun class where the dogs will socialize, play, eat and learn to walk nicely on a leash, come when called, and stay where placed or sent. Handling exercises essential for grooming are also continued.

Beginner's Class:
This is an 11 week training course teaching heel, sit, down, stay & come. Reliability under distraction is emphasized. Manners and problem behaviors are dealt with using obedience training as t
he foundation for understanding authority, Students are taught skills to reinforce basic obedience so that they will have a companion dog who is always a pleasure both in and outside of the home. Near the end of class thorough off lead control techniques are introduced to prepare the dog and handler for more advanced training.

About our Advanced Classes - Since our training classes are a very systematic process that builds skills and techniques learned in prior classes, anyone wishing to join us at any of the advanced levels below will need to be evaluated in advance to class registration. Transfers may need to start at a lower level so that their dog is not stressed by new methods.

Novice Class:
In this 10 week class you & your dog will perfect the off-leash methods started in the Beginner's Class. Beginner's Class work will be proofed to solidify the proper responses even at greater distances and distractions with more accuracy. Polishing methods will be introduced that will get the handler & dog team ready to enter competition if they choose to do so.

Pre-Open Class:
Here you will teach your dog to retrieve, go over jumps on command and stay where you put him even if you have to leave his sight. This class is the start of work that will prepare dog & handler to enter the second level of obedience competition.

Open Class:
This class will add increasing distractions and distance to the work started in the Pre-Open Class. Upon successful components the team will be on the way to ring-readiness for the Open level of competition.

Pre-Utility Class:
In this class you will learn the basic components of exercises that are required at the highest level of obedience competition. The dog will learn to discriminate otherwise similar articles by scent. He will learn to heel, stand, sit, down and come with the handler using only hand signals only - no verbals commands. Your dog will also learn to take a direction on a retrieve rather than to retrieve his choice of gloves that are laid out about 20 feet apart. The dog will learn to move away from the handler to a prescribed place where he will sit on command and wait further instruction form the handler and to take a direction to a jump that you as handler indicate even when there is a choice of two.

Mid-Utility Class:
In this class we will help the handler learn more handling techniques to help proof the excercise taught in Pre-Utility.

Utility Class:
The work in this class will perfect and proof the exercises used in Mid-Utility. Successful completion of this class will have the team approaching readiness to enter the ring at the highest level of obedience.

Other things that you can do with your dog!
While the classes formally given by Car-Dun-Al are limited to Obedience many of our members over the years have achieved a great deal of success in competition and in so doing have learned about other areas of fun to be had with their dogs.

Members have become involved in Therapy Dog Work, Reading To Rover, Tracking, Hunt & Field Tests, Fly Ball, Herding and Dock Diving to just name a few. Our members are always willing to share their knowledge, experience and training advice to anyone interested in doing more with their dog.

The Dog, when he understands, always wants to please!
