Jump, Fetch, and Sniff Class Fall 2026

This class will proceed where our puppy class left off, but is designed for adult dogs. Class will give students the opportunity to introduce advanced skills needed in higher levels of obedience as well as other avenues of dog sport such as tracking, hunting, or agility. The use of toys, treats, and more relaxed nature of this class should appeal to people that might be concerned about higher levels of obedience classes or who may just need a break after beginners, novice, or even pre-open. Hopefully this will encourage more students to continue on to our higher class levels where all the fun starts.

While force breaking is a means of obtaining an extremely reliable retrieve, Koehler tells us that you may only use an ear pinch after you have a dog that will “cheerfully accept the dumbbell at the lightest touch”. This class can help those people and dogs who may not be progressing in pre-open as well as helping to insure the success of our students that have not attempted that class yet. Directed retrieves can be started with toy tossing and a variety of materials.

All dogs love the game of sniffing to find a hidden or lost item with the handler’s scent on it just as they would search a pile of utility articles or a field when hunting or tracking or looking for lost keys or cell phone.

There is no homework for this class and students are encouraged to ask for help training anything else they would like to do. The only requirement is that dogs be relaxed and friendly working around other dogs and people.
